Our Family History

Our old Wentworthville home where we used to live!

Taken by my new digital camera called Canon Powershot A85.
Taken since Saturday, 11th February, 2006.

I'm now finished making the movie using Windows Movie Maker on our family history of our lives when we used to live in the Wentworthville region. We used to live there until the morning of Wednesday, 4th July, 2006 when we left there to live at Port Macquarie, NSW. Removed mainly because the website zoomin does not work anymore!

The Movie is below here.

My Family History - The First Years

My mum and dad first met each other on the ship the "Fairsea". Dad had been in Australia for 2 years. He came out as a 10 pound immigrant in 1961. It was really a cheap working holiday for him and his friend Tom. Dad worked for the railways at Central Station for most of that time. Mum had been teaching in Broken Hill and decided to travel overseas when she was moved back to Sydney to teach. Dad was supposed to travel on a Greek ship, but it was burnt out. In the 1960's travel by ship was the cheapest way to travel. The ships would bring many migrants to Australia and return half empty to collect more people. The trip took 6 weeks for them because they went to N.Z. First the back and up through the Great Barrier Reef to Singapore, Sri Lanka (ceylon) Egypt and Italy. What fun! Mum and dad kept in touch when they left the ship and 10 months later they were married. They lived in London, England for the next 4½ years. My sister Joanne was born there. When my grandma came over for a holiday, mum & dad decided to save up and return. My Nan and grandad, that's dad's parents wanted to go to Australia with them. They did as 10 pound immigrants. So mum, dad, Joanne, Nan, grandad and dad's friend Tom all came to Australia on the Fairstar in 1967. A few months later dad's sister and her husband and daughter Susan immigrated too. So all the family were now living in Australia. Mum says it was hard at first getting settled. My sister Petrina was born in 1968. In February 1969 mum, dad, Joanne and Petrina moved into the house they had bought in Wentworthville. This was not for from my grandma and grandpa. My Nan and grandad were living in Burwood with dad's sister and Tom, his friend was at North Sydney. Mum went back to work and I was born in 1972. After I was born mum gave up full time permanent teaching so she could look after us. When I was 3½ years old I was diagnosed with Autism. I was a Good child but I did not talk or bother much about anyone. Mum says it was a very hard time for everyone because even my doctor did not know anything about my problem. Mum and dad had to fight hard to get help for me. In my pictures you can see how I loved the sprinkler and how hard it was for me to go on the long walk at Coonabarabran. I used to get help from the teachers from the Autistic School until I was 5 then I went to Kingsgrove School for autistic children until I was 7. Mum and dad were told when I was 6 to see if I could go to the local school because I really did not fit in at Kingsgrove School. They said I could learn better at regular school. Finally mum got me into Pendle Hill Public School. So at 7 years old I started in kindergarden. And I did do well. I started to talk and I learnt to read and write all that year. I was always good at maths. When I was 4½ years old we went to England for a holiday. This time, for mum and dad it was by plane. In 1978 my brother Philip was born. Now the family is complete. As my brother grew up we used to have lots of fun playing together. My story finishes when I am 9 years. When I was 16 years old the doctors knew more about my disability and said I had Aspergers Syndrome because I could manage a lot better now.

This is the swimming pool in own our old backyard a long time after we left Wentworthville. It has become so neglected it's got algae in it. Also there is some mess that follows after it on the other side of the fence. Please see this photo below!
This digital photo below was taken since Saturday, 25th November, 2006. And it was 41 weeks since I have taken a picture of the house.
